This form of plyometric exercising encourages the activation of the so-called stretch shortening cycle (SSC) of your muscles and the related connective tissues. What does the squat jump exercise do for your vertical jumping? This specific type of physical exercise develops the ability for a quick burst of intense muscular contraction. It’s like a booster rocket for your jump.

This exercise is the key to helping your basketball game because it will give you the dramatic athletic explosiveness that is a key factor to dominate on the basketball court. You might have seen basketball stars jumping extremely high during a basketball game. They jump and they twist and turn and fly high up to put that ball into the basket. It looks so easy, but it is based on the squat jump training I have been talking about here.

How do you do squat jumps? In order to do squat jump exercise you want to stand with your feet at shoulder width distance apart in length. Keeps the arms at your side. Now start the squat jump by doing a regular squat exercise and then jump up as explosively as you can when you rise up pretending you want to reach for the ceiling. Upon anding, lower your body back into the initial squat position. I recommend to start with 2 sets of 10 reps each and then to slowly increase to 3 or 4 sets.

Make sure you are warmed up to prevent muscle injury when doing squat jumps.
